piCture pOlish - Heavy Metal (And a Unique Drippy Mani!)

Hi everyone!

It's Wednesday again, so you know that means I have a new piCture pOlish shade to share with you!

Heavy Metal is a very dense mixture of charcoal grey and silver glitter. I didn't expect it to be so dense when I first glanced at it; I expected it to be more of a silver glitter topper, but I was pleasantly surprised! It's actually almost a one-coater, although I did use two just to make sure. Plus, the formula is really great and the glitter just flows smoothly onto the nail.

The density/coverage of glitter compares with the Milani One Coat Glitters, which I'm a big fan of. There's a silver one in that collection but it's significantly darker than Heavy Metal and really more of an asphalt colour than silver.

You'd think that with glitter so dense, it would eat up top coat like crazy. But actually, I've been wearing this for a full day now with just one coat of Seche Vite and it's still completely smooth to the touch.

Now, I'll be honest and say that I don't usually gravitate towards shades like this on their own. However, add a little nail art and I'm sold.

I decided to do some drippy nails and I wanted to use a really unexpected colour for the drips. So I started thinking about pastels and how interesting and unique it would look to contrast the edgy look of Heavy Metal with a soft and delicate pastel shade. I immediately gravitated towards Illamasqua Milf, which is a new addition to my stash. It's a light pistachio creme, and I think it looks so awesome with piCture pOlish Heavy Metal! I even inverted the look as an accent nail and I love it that way as well.

To create the drips, I first outlined the basic shapes with black polish and a small nail art brush. Then I went in with Milf (or Heavy Metal in the case of the accent nail) and basically just coloured inside the lines. I do have an older tutorial for drippy nails, so you can check that out if you're interested in trying out this look for yourself.
